Deputy chief takes over daily operations

Deputy Police Chief Steve Tompkins is overseeing the department's daily operations during Minardi's leave, according to the town. Westborough is also taking steps to hire an outside investigator.

Leadership history and contract

Minardi served as deputy chief before being sworn in as interim chief in June 2023. He took the oath as chief in November of that year, according to the police department.

The Westborough Select Board approved a new three-year employment agreement for Minardi on Feb. 24, 2026. The agreement runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029, according to the board's meeting minutes.

The contract passed 3-2. Vice Chair Shelby Marshall and board member Patrick Welch voted against it over an 8.66% salary increase in the first year, the minutes state.
