LINE OF DUTY: OPERATION ECHO to Launch Immersive Experience in London

Fans of the hit BBC drama Line of Duty will soon have the chance to become anti-corruption officers themselves, as CityDays prepares to launch Line of Duty: Operation Echo on the streets of London in early 2027. The immersive experience will transform the capital into an active investigation site where teams must uncover evidence, chase leads and navigate moral dilemmas to solve their own case.

CityDays Expands Its Portfolio of TV-Based Experiences

The announcement marks a significant expansion for CityDays, a UK-based company that operates immersive urban adventures in over 40 cities worldwide. The experience creator has built a strong track record adapting popular television properties into interactive adventures, having launched Race Across the World: The Experience in May 2025 across six locations in five UK cities including London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and York. More recently, in June 2026, CityDays released The Traitors: Anywhere, a WhatsApp-based social deduction game for 8-30 players.

What to Expect from Operation Echo

Line of Duty: Operation Echo will guide teams of 2-8 players through a 2-to-3-hour investigation covering 4-5 kilometres of London's streets. The experience combines escape room-style puzzles, navigational challenges and interactive storytelling as players visit pubs, cafés, landmarks and other venues that become integral parts of their investigation. At each location, participants will uncover physical evidence, solve riddles and grapple with difficult decisions that could alter the outcome of their case.

Players will encounter CCTV footage, fingerprints, forensic reports, diary entries and bank records while interacting with characters through video, audio and phone messaging. Navigational clues will lead teams to permanent features hidden throughout the city, including plaques, statues and distinctive architecture. The experience emphasises trust and deception, requiring players to decide who to believe and how far they are willing to go for justice.

The Line of Duty Legacy

The source material provides a rich foundation for the experience. Created by Jed Mercurio, Line of Duty ran for six seasons with 36 episodes between 2012 and 2021, following the fictional Anti-Corruption Unit 12 (AC-12) as they investigated police corruption. The series evolved from its initial home on BBC Two to become a mainstream phenomenon after moving to BBC One for its fourth season in March 2017. When the sixth season finale aired in May 2021, it drew 12.8 million viewers, establishing it as one of the highest-rated UK drama series in recent years.

Industry Response

Tom Rymer, founder of CityDays, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the Line of Duty universe to life.

Following the launches of Race Across the World: The Experience both in London and across the UK alongside The Traitors: Anywhere, we've seen first-hand how exciting and rewarding it is for people to step inside and explore a world they know and love, and we can't wait to give Line of Duty fans that same opportunity.

The partnership behind the experience involves Studio 55, ITV Studios' global brand partnership division officially launched in February 2026 to facilitate licensing deals for live experiences and commercial partnerships. Lou Black, Global SVP of Brand & Commercial Partnerships at Studio 55, highlighted the experience's alignment with the show's core themes.

At its heart, Line of Duty is driven by high stakes, moral gray areas, and one relentless pursuit: uncovering the truth. Line of Duty: Operation Echo takes that tension off the screen and puts it directly into the hands of fans, turning the streets of London into an active AC-12 investigation.

Scoring and Corporate Appeal

Teams will receive scores based on their performance and investigation outcomes, with results contributing to a leaderboard. Each group will also receive a personalised certificate featuring their score, accolades and a persona reflecting their investigative approach, ranging from "Super Sleuths" to "Reckless Mavericks."

CityDays' platform has proven popular with corporate clients, with over 1,000 companies including Amazon, Google, BBC and Coca-Cola having used the company's games for team-building events. The Line of Duty experience is designed to appeal to groups of friends, families, colleagues and fans of the series alike.

Those interested in participating can sign up to a waitlist to secure their place in the investigation when it launches next year.
